Does the idea of justice vary over time, place and society? People opinions on justice change dramatically over different generations this can be seen through To Kill a Mocking Bird written by Harper Lee. The novel represents injustice such as racism towards Tom Robinson throughout the novel, the novel shows a lot of racism in it, Harper Lee shows racism Towards Tom and his family and also Mr. Finch (Atticus’s) maid (Maudie) or (Calpurnia) . Throughout our Australian history, we have completed actions that we would never dream of doing today; this shows the change in justice over time and society.
To Kill A Mocking Bird is a social context, it’s shown in a sense of time and place and is also in a child’s point of view. Harper lee explores the issue of justice using the symbol of the mockingbird, the novel unfolds and as it unfolds we see as readers can see injustice. Justice and its relationship with predudice is the central theme of the timeless 1960’s novel. Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. Tom Robinson was killed by the community, despite the fact the man was helpful and kind especially Mayella, who accused him of raping her. Its focal point is the trial of Tom Robinson, Tom was sent to trial and then found guilty even after Atticus Finch had proven his innocence, simply based upon the fact that he was a colored African American man. Racial predjudice is thoroughly explored In the novel, this is also known as discrimination and injustice.
As a young girl, Malala Yousafzai defied the Taliban in Pakistan and demanded that girls should be allowed to receive education, she was shot in the head by Taliban Gunman in 2012, but survived. She became the first young women to get a Nobel prize for her beliefs and for getting shot in the head for following her dream. This shows true justice but the world is not going to stop, but she is not going to let ignorant people stop her in her tracks, her goal is to get a good education and she will stand by that goal even if she gets another bullet it’s all worth it in her books. She is also a symbol of freedom for girls who don’t have the courage to fight for what is right and just and as Atticus Finch once said “ I wanted you to see what real courage is. Instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hands. It’s when you know you’re licked before you being but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” What Atticus is trying to say is that he has the courage to fight even know he won’t win, this is a perception on justice.
The execution of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were executed not long ago because they were smuggling drugs, why is it that two people got caught and got executed for smuggling drugs when there is lots of people in this world who are currently smuggling drugs as we speak, Chan and Sukumaran's death might save some other teenager from making the same mistake yet You see little kids smuggling drugs into country’s would you kill them because they were smuggling drugs kids as young as 1 or 2? you don’t see them getting executed, we have executed two people out of millions what are we going to do with the rest? Drug smuggling will continue and those who roped Chan and Sukumaran into their drug ring are still free to watch someone place a sticker over their hearts, in the dead of night, before a line-up of Indonesian police officers take aim, and shoot them dead. Perhaps they'll also watch the television, and see the tormented look in the eyes of Chan and Sukumaran's parents who will be told when their children have just 72 hours to live.
In conclusion does the idea of justice vary overtime, place and society, yes it does. . To Kill A Mocking Bird symbolizes the justices varied not only though society but time and place. Throughout our Australian history, we have completed many actions that we would never dream of doing today, and we also regret these decisions; this shows the change in justice over time and society
